SPREADSHEET GUIDE · PROPERTY

A rent ledger that always shows who owes what.

Track every charge and payment per tenant with a running balance. A clear ledger settles disputes quickly and makes year-end records simple.

Columns that matter

  1. Tenant, unit and lease start date.
  2. Due date and amount due each period.
  3. Amount paid, date received and payment method.
  4. Late fees or other charges on their own line, never mixed into rent.
  5. A running balance calculated by formula, so overpayments and arrears are visible.

Example request to start with

“Create an Excel rent ledger for a 4-unit building with a sheet per unit, monthly rows for 12 months, amount due, amount paid, payment date, method, late fee, running balance and a summary sheet showing each unit's balance.”

Late fees and notice rules are set by your lease and local law. The spreadsheet records what you enter; it doesn't decide what you can charge.
